This is our guide that could help you prior your dog’s residential stay and before our training session.
Markers
We use markers to simplify communication with our dogs. The most important is the YES marker which is a termination marker. It pinpoints and marks a desired behaviour, the dog comes and receives reward from us. Make sure to add movement to bring the dog to you.
Markers need charging to be meaningful to the dog, the video shows how you can easily charge your yes marker in a couple of days before our session.
FOOD DRIVE &motivation
One of the most important thing. We can’t do anything if your dog isn’t motivated by either food or play. We need to be able to reward all the good choices and for this you need to build up your dog’s food drive. We recommend hand feeding their meals outside when training with you, so the bowl doesn’t have the value anymore, but you have! If the dog decides to not to take food, be patient and put it away, offer it again later. If you allow your dog to graze all day long, they will not want to work for food outside which will make your life harder because you will have no way to reward. We recommend weighing out your dogs daily food allowance and use it to reward good behaviours throughout the day and on your walks.
